What I'm Loving This Wednesday: The Art Factory Mosaics from Sicis

The Art Factory line of mosaics from Sicis are created by hand by artists in the Sicis Art Mosaic Factory   in Italy. The line features basic, steel, marble and glass mosaic – each one with several different collections within the line. The glass mosaics come in an incredible array of bright, bold and vibrant colors as well as shapes and sizes.

There is really no limit to the look you can create. Sicis has the right tiles whether you’re going for a simplistic look, a sleek contemporary look or over-the-top luxury.  If you have an idea in mind you’re sure to find the right collection- and even if you have no ideas in mind, just looking through the available options is sure to spark inspiration in you.  I could literately spend hours just looking through their interactive catalogs and dreaming up ideas for applications.

I have used Sicis Art Factory mosaics in several different applications; small scale ones to add a little sparkle and mosaics on the floor. Every time I’ve used them , I’ve had a really beautiful outcome. Sicis mosaics have been used in tons of prominent luxury projects throughout the world, so just imagine having them in your bathroom, pool, entry way or kitchen. These tiles can really take your home up a notch on the glamour scale!

The pictures I am showing here include the Blue No. 2 from the Glass 3 collection, Heliantus Gr from the SiciStone collection  and several different colors from the Glimmer collection in the picture with the books and shelving. You can create a dynamic look with a lot of the mosaics, like the Glimmer collection and the glass mosaics by incorporating lighting.

Visit Sicis.com to see their full line of beautiful mosaics as well as their very unique and gorgeous furniture and jewelry lines. They also have an art gallery page where you can check out some pretty awesome pieces of artwork and mosaic sculptures that have been made with the Art Factory collections.

Artful living in Sarasota

I've been so busy these past few months, things are starting to wind down some and I can breathe! Who am I kidding though? I love to be a busy gal!!!

Anyhow, in all the bustle of the holidays, moving into our first home and some major projects going on, I realized I have been slacking a bit, I've been posting about inspiration and other miscellaneous things, but I have realized that I haven't caught you up on what Lisa Gilmore Design has been doing! However, if you interact with me on Facebook or Twitter, you haven't been completely in the dark. ;) And hey, if you don't get on over to the party and chat it up with us!

So anyhow, back in November I installed a beautiful project in Sarasota, FL. This client of mine is a lover of modern art, her favorite artist in particular is Itzchak Tarkay. Here is the journey of transforming her home...

Before, her living room palette was an awash of sands and beige. Nothing really grabbed your focus and let you enjoy her space, it was a bit scattered and bland....

After meeting with her and seeing her sunny Sarasota home, I realized that she needed some more color in her life to reflect her modern art taste.  So I went to work quickly, brainstorming ways to make it feel as if you lived inside of a Tarkay   painting.  This was the concept palette to present to her...

After a few meetings, fresh paint and reworking the floorplan, may I present to you the new and improved Artful Living Space!

A beautiful kidney shaped sofa recovered in a luscious teal quilted velvet. Arm chairs that were once brown and fruit-wood frames, were recovered in sexy hot pink and made special with a pop of fresh new paint. A new dining room set and chandelier,

Custom pillows (don't you think those pillows kind of look like a Tarkay painting??) and drapery, oversized modern art framed to perfection a simple rug and coffee table to pull it all together!

All in all, I am very happy with the outcome of this space, we spent some time at thrift stores around town to find some pieces to restyle, and local workrooms did it beautifully!

What do you think of this colorful space? Would you love to live in such a colorful setting?

Layering on the GOLD!

I am so lucky to have so many different clients with different styles. The different aesthetics that we use to build these beautiful spaces for them to inhabit excites me with every last detail.

Currently, I am working on a Hollywood Regency styled home. We have been working for a long time on this lovely couples space and finally, we are starting to see results of our hard work and meetings! Here is a small journey of what we've been designing up:

You see, this client is ultra glam. She loves Hollywood Regency and anything couture and fabulous. She pays close attention to the little details and appreciates the glitz and glam of these styles. I wouldn't expect anything less from her, after all, she is a fabulous designer herself. She is the beauty, brains and raw talent behind Maison Lyle and specializes in one of a kind costumes, bikinis and beyond:

These were some inspiration photos to get our glam wheels turning:

Inspiration photos provided by client via google searches

Lots of velvet, color, pattern, texture, crystal and more velvet! (Did I mention, we like velvet?)

So our inspiration started turning and I got to work. Designing custom trim work and columns to complete the layered look of the space was key:

Lot's of planning and deciding of what fabrics and wallpapers should go where:

Demo starts on the walls and the beautiful custom designed trim work goes up:

Some of the furniture we have used is custom designed by Lisa Gilmore Design and built here locally in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Finally, our amazing trim work shines with these fresh new colors from Benjamin Moore!
Then one of my favorite stages... WALLPAPER is going UP!
I was so happy when I saw this up, I did one happy Hollywood Regency dance in my clients dining room! Layers and layers of gilded gold, beautiful velvet and colors are all coming into place!

There is still a bit of work under way at this clients home, but I can't wait to share the complete story with you. It will be Hollywood Regency heaven! Until then, wear some fabulous gold jewelry to hold you over ;)

Master Bathroom Renovation

I am so excited to share this master bathroom renovation with you, this project was just completed. It really is a huge transformation. The homeowners called me in once they started peeling off the dated wallpaper, after our first meeting we started working on a great plan to make their master bathroom more functional and visualy pleasing. Plus, they are planning to sell their house down the road, so upgrades for resale were a huge part of the design.

Here are some quick sketches of the bathroom layout before and what I designed for the space:
(I wont bore you with my technical CAD drawings) :)

There were so many problems with this original plan. Bulky walls breaking up sight lines, low counters, a linen closet that wasn't very functional because it was too deep, a dated shower that felt like cave. (I don't think Bruce Wayne could even appreciate this batcave of a space!) All of these elements made you feel closed in and you wanted to exit fast.

That is no longer the case...

A higher vanity with double sinks, beautiful new tile on the walls and floor, a sleek frameless shower. This bathroom no longer feels dark and closed in. It is now a beautiful space for the homeowners to enjoy!

I am so pleased with the turnout and I am happy to know that the homeowners are as well. They left me this stellar review, thanks guys!

"We had decided to do a complete renovation of the master bathroom and had no idea where to begin except to tear it all down and start over. With a very small room and no ideas, we were thrilled with the level of creativity Lisa brought to the project while keeping our budget in mind. We had wanted something nice in keeping with our tastes throughout the house but not too personal so that in the event we sell it will appeal to a large audience.

Lisa was able to tailor a bathroom that was modern but retained the earthy feel that we have throughout the house and gave us multiple options on ways to utilize the space to give the room a bigger feel. We did most of the work ourselves and she was very understanding of our schedule and the fact that by doing it ourselves there may be longer delays in getting everything done. We had many questions throughout the project and she was always very prompt in getting back to us, taking our calls or responding quickly to email.

We would recommend Lisa as a full service designer to anyone looking for help on a project!"

Granny Chic Bathroom

A friend of mine sent me this photo seeking help for her rental bathroom. Take a look at that dated wallpaper! Since she is only renting, she obviously can't do anything permanent.

So I went to the drawing board and came up with this story board for a "Granny Chic Bathroom" This old dated wallpaper better be ready for a big face lift!

Feelin' Crabby?

As most of you know, the hubby-to-be and I relocated to the Gulf Coast... I love being close to the salt water, although I don't make it there nearly enough. (Planning to change that soon!) Anyhow, even though interior design and art is my ultimate passion (fingers crossed for more clients in the near future!), I do however work at a restaurant on the beach, (Hey! A gal has to pay her bills!) So, the other day I walked past the most beautiful plate of Stone Crab Legs.... now, I have to be honest... I don't eat crab legs. Of any kind. (I actually just started eating crab cakes!!) But the colors gleaming of these crabby gams got my inspiration wheels turning...

Look at the beautiful colors of cream, corals, reds, oranges and black in the Stone Crab legs! You guessed it... here are some Stone Crab inspired designs! :)

This living room sings sunshine! Although, I wish they would have used a great rug to pull it all together...

This hall has an interesting surprise, I love the red frames, rather than the expected black frames:

This image of the Henredon showroom is fantastic! I love the light and airy feeling from the use of colors and the fantastic contrasts from those stunning Barbara Barry chairs. (They are one of my favorites of her pieces!)

So what do you think? Are you feelin' crabby? ;)

Coastal Love

Yesterday, I was driving to work and it was such a beautiful day here in Indian Rocks Beach, FL. The sun was shining and the water was glistening. It looked like someone just threw glitter in the bay. It brought an instant smile to my face and I felt cheery all day.

Throughout the day I was thinking of beautiful coastal inspired interiors and I haven't been able to shake this stunning color palette. I love the beautiful green and blue hues...

So here are a few coastal inspired images that make my beachy heart sing! :)

I love the coastal-cool retro kitchen:

I love the shutter details on the walls of this breakfast nook:

Provide a happy dose of sunshine for your guests with a bedroom like this:

Kelly Wearstler's line of textiles would work out great for a coastal home:

I don't know about you... but this would be my perfect beach home. Modern, sleek and full of windows and natural light....
